Gemma is an author and illustrator from the Causeway Coast. She graduated from Falmouth University in 2011 with a BA (Hons) Degree in Illustration. She also graduated with her first authored and illustrated picture book deal after visiting the Bologna Children’s Book Fair during her final year of study. Her books have now been published globally and been nominated for numerous awards, such as the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal, Dundee Picture Book Awards and Coventry Inspiration Book Awards.

Gemma has always had equal love for fine art and design, so illustration presented itself very organically as a career choice. She initially specialised in children’s book illustration, but she now enjoys all forms of book illustration and illustration in general. She has her own greetings cards range, print range and enjoys exhibiting, selling and being commissioned for original artwork.

Nature, history and architecture have always influenced Gemma’s work and her Causeway Coast roots have undoubtedly been of huge inspiration in terms of mark making, colour and the natural theme within her work. Her love for trail running, hiking and photography are very much intertwined with her illustration practice.

Gemma lives in a little cottage next to the woods, near the Mourne Mountains in County Down and works from Blick Studios in the Cathedral Quarter, Belfast.
